Madly (Mini-Review)

(Madly, #1)

By: M. Leighton
Release Date: June 2011
Genre(s): YA Paranormal/Fantasy

 My Review: (4/5 stars*)

Since the story is incredibly short with a total of 50 some pages my review will be quite brief. This short novelette is fun and exciting. Having only read 2 other mermaid books this one nearly tops them all. Madly is smart, innovative, and brave-especially for a mermaid princess. Jackson is gorgeous, strong, and self-contained with his emotions hiding the blinding fact that he's captivated by Madly but very hesitant to act on those feelings because he knows that they can't ever be together. There love is forbidden and that's why they are destined for each other. This is a fantastic mermaid tale of both love and adventure entwined with paranormal elements. It's fast paced and really a fantastic read. M. Leighton creates a compelling story with a fascinating introduction to the world of mermaids and twisted fairy tales. Immediately you'll want the next book because it leaves off right when things start to get interesting..

Synopsis:

Madly is an eighteen-year-old mermaid princess who is satisfied with her life as it is until Jackson Hamilton reenters it. Jackson was the boy she had always had a crush on.. until he went away to become a Sentinel. As a mermaid princess she's obligated to marry her betrothed and best friend...who isn't Jackson and whom she only has brotherly feelings towards. Her love life is complicated and even more so since Sentinels are forbidden. Madly's life turns upside down when she discovers there's been a prison break in Atlas - her home world. Madly is forced to learn her powers early and recapture the escapee's called the Lore for if she doesn't her home, family, and life as she knows it will be destroyed.
