(The Body Finder, #4)

Release Date: April 16th, 2013
Genre(s): YA Paranormal/Mystery/Romance

My Review: (4.5/5 stars*)

Dead Silence is another creepy yet totally engrossing novel in the Body Finder series. This book felt a little different from the rest because it finally explores Violet's roots and answers some questions you more than likely wouldn't even think about asking about her ability. I loved discovering her gift's history and some new facts about what she can do. As for the cliffhanger at the end of The Last Echo you finally get answers but not all the ones you've been looking for. Jay and Rafe still remain a pretty big part of the book and I love their relationship with Violet. Rafe and Violet have this unspoken bond between each other and I enjoy seeing them interact and work together as a team. Jay is still his hot and adorable self always trying to protect Violet even though she can hold her own. Although if you're expecting a ton of romance you won't find it in Dead Silence. The murders in this story are gruesome, and the murderer is twisted with strange moral values. I think Kimberly Derting does a great job on making this book and the last book's killer's POV's creepy enough to make your skin crawl.

As for Violet I really have grown to like her character despite the mistakes she keeps making. She has matured a lot since the previous novels and finally opens up to people, and worries about herself and others safety and actually takes precautions. More unexpectedly I found I loved Chelsea's role in this book who finally shows more sides of herself and isn't the superficial barbie she has appeared to be but someone who Violet can depend upon
. Unfortunately Violet's other friends left me with no impressions whatsoever because their appearances are near nonexistent. Gemma is another character who has a bigger role and despite her cold demeanor towards Violet I didn't end up disliking her as I had previously. This novel has many character and story developments all of which were incredibly exciting to see; I hate repetitious behavior and cycles of monotony and Dead Silence broke that up and made it refreshing!

Dead Silence begins with a shocking introduction and from there rewinds the clock to show the events that will lead up to that point. Violet is struggling with the eerie musical imprint she now carries and the fact that she has no choice but to stay on the paranormally gifted team. Carrying the weight of this she must put aside her feelings and focus on a new case—that she has unwittingly stumbled upon. A murderer who has his own following, and one whose warped values make him extremely dangerous. But it isn't just the case weighing on her mind it's what she uncovers in her grandmother's journals that has her worried, it's the way Rafe looks at her, it's Jay's unwavering loyalty, it's her best friend Chelsea's demand for the truth, and it's the victims she can't save that turns her stomach. Can Violet overcome these issues and come out unscathed? Just maybe.

Those who have enjoyed the first three books in this series should find this one as equally entertaining. Although I found this book to be very good I don't think it topped The Last Echo. Regardless, Dead Silence wraps up a lot of loose ends but the ending leaves a huge opening for a lot of new possibilities which I'm hoping Derting will take advantage of. Overall I think the entire Body Finder series is fantastic, written well, and brings something new to the paranormal romance genre. Definitely a uniquely devised story with remarkable characters.

Synopsis:

Violet thought she’d made peace with her unique ability to sense the echoes of the dead and the imprints that cling to their killers…that is until she acquired an imprint of her own. Forced to carry a reminder of the horrible events of her kidnapping, Violet is more determined than ever to lead a normal life. However, the people who run the special investigative team Violet works for have no intention of letting her go.

When someone close to Violet becomes a suspect in a horrific murder, she finds herself pulled into a deadly hunt for a madman with an army of devoted followers. Violet has survived dangerous situations before, but she quickly discovers that protecting those closest to her is far more difficult than protecting herself.

  1. I'm glad you enjoyed it! Yeah, The Last Echo is hard to top, that's for sure! I'm wanting her to now write a spin off series from Rafe's POV, I think that would be great!
Thanks so much for hosting a tour stop and sharing your thoughts!

    1. I really did! & The Last Echo was incredible but Dead Silence was a great addition. I would love that too, Rafe is such an interesting character. I hope she writes more books in the series because their is a lot of different material that can be explored especially with the paranormal team.

& Thank you I'm glad I got to be a part of the tour! :)
