Q: What book are you embarrassed to admit you LOVED? (try to think beyond Twilight).
While Twilight would be at the top of the list, I clearly wouldn't walk into a room full of people and start the conversation off with "I loved the Twilight series". Those that fall into the embarrassing category are books that people without an imagination fail to see as proper reading material, or anyone who doesn't read at all. It's hardly a specific book I would be embarrassed to admitting I read and loved but more like an entire genre. I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE adult/ya fantasy, and paranormal romance novels. Vampires, werewolves, shifters, fae, angels, demons and any other supernatural creature that has a fantastical story. Unless I'm amongst individuals who read those type of books I'm most likely not going to fess up about them to someone else.

Hahaha that's for sure! When people ask what's my favorite book I just say I like to read fiction and leave it at that. It's kind of sad but I like keeping it to myself, it's less complicated that way :)
ReplyDeleteThankfully my reader/blogger friends like the same genres as me so I can talk freely without getting the "owl eyes".
Thank you for following Mary, I hope you enjoy my blog!!

I think non-readers tend to judge more then readers about what I am reading. And since they are non-readers I don't even care what they think!

No doubt about it, they do. I feel like I'm alone in liking certain genres because when I ask someone what they read the reply is usually educational books. & Then there are those who can't be bothered to even look at a book, so, I guess in retrospect I shouldn't care either. I hope to be able to one day just read what I love in public without having to feel like I should explain why I'm reading what I am. Though I'm not there yet!
DeleteThat's wonderful you don't care what anyone thinks about what you read! :)
Thanks for stopping by, hope you have an awesome weekend!

It's pretty widely known that I read romance books, so I can't even hide it, haha. I'm not embarrassed though, obviously it's a popular genre!

I love romance novels, I used to think they were something to be embarrassed about but I've come to realize their not. Paranormal romance and any genres with fantasy usually keep me silent though, most people aren't into that and think it's just for teenagers. I wish people that don't read were less judgmental.
DeleteThanks Chrissy for sharing your thoughts and following, great to see another fan of romance :)

Interesting Answer. I agree. Thanks for sharing with us.

Thanks, I struggled with coming up with a singular answer so covering a whole genre was easier and equally true.

I know what you mean. I hate the looks I get when talking about vampire or shapshifter books! I picked 2 children's series that I read a couple of years ago for mine. My Feature

It's the look of judgment on their faces that I can't stand. Everyone should be able to read whatever they want. I find it comforting that there are plenty of other people my age and above that read the same books and I can talk about it to them without going on the defense about my choice of reading.
DeleteThanks for following, really appreciate it and I hope you enjoy my blog :)

I agree. Not a lot of people are very keen on the paranormal/fantasy trend going on right now. Its not exactly something you go shouting from the rooftops. Great answer!

Amanda @ i solemnly swear
Haha nope people think it's pretty lame when you go around saying you love those type of books! I refuse to stop reading them though :) It's unfortunate that some people can't see the fun or escapism within the genre, it's meant to be entertaining.
DeleteAmanda, thanks for dropping by and leaving a comment!!

Well, I like Twilight too! Though I'm not embarrassed to admit it, its certainly not very comfortable to sit around people who hates the book and admit that I loved it! :P

Everyone I know has at least read or is adamantly against it for one reason or another, but I was part of the group who loved it as a teen. It's nice to see someone who doesn't care what others think, I admire it!
DeleteThank you for following and commenting, I love hearing about what everyone has to say about books :)
Have an awesome weekend!

Hopping through. one of the nice things about Twilight (and I am a big fan) is that it's made vampires cool. Even if it's a scenario where people say that a vampire book is cool because it's better than Twilight. People still think it's acceptable to read vampire books. More than they used to.

I think it helped inspire many other writers to go the supernatural route, but also to show that book-to-movie adaptations can work and be very successful. Although I read it long before the films came out, it was the start of something big, and for that I'm happy. I love vampire reads :)

I agree, I hate when people get all judgemental about what I like to read - especially if those people never read at all! I'm never embarrassed by the books I love, I'm usually proclaiming it rather loudly to anyone who will listen =D

I wish I could do just that, I need some confidence in the book department. :P

YES! Fantasy and paranormal romances are my favorites. My friends laugh at my Shifter obsession but I just adore those kinds of stories. I found you because you commented on the Reviews from a Bookworm blog for FFF - when I saw you loved paranormal/fantasy I knew I needed to stop by and start following you.
ReplyDeleteMy FF post is here if you want to follow back.
Awesome! I really love all of the supernatural romance stories too, you should check out my goodreads favorites on my sidebar :) They are mostly PNR. I love finding readers who enjoy the same books as I do, because then we can talk about them!
ReplyDeleteThanks Kristin for stopping at my blog, I hope I can introduce you to even more amazing paranormal/fantasy books :-)
& I always follow back!!
I hope you have a brilliant weekend!

I don't find Twilight to be embarassing... I'm a guy and I've read it!
