My Review: (5/5 stars*)

Sweetest Mistake is a treasure of a read that invites warmth and incites emotion. It's the second novel in the Sweet, Texas series that centers on Jackson Wilder, a model fireman, parent, and a man who suffers from a broken heart. I first visited Sweet, Texas in Anything But Sweet and I adored the characters, the close-knit town, and the immediate relatability. Terry seduces readers with southern comforts and gives you a contemporary romance that's so sweet, exquisite, and irresistible.

Thirty-one year-old Jackson Wilder has led a good life, but he's also had his share of bad things happen. He lost a brother who he looked up to the most, his father, his best friend
the girl of his dreams—and childhood sweetheart. The first two died but Abigail left him right before the domino of events fell, without a reason or a word. Years later Abby returns to take care of some business in Sweet, Texas and she once again leaves Jackson only this time it's breathless. Abigail is no longer the girl he remembers but she's the one he's never gotten over or forgotten. Abigail Morgan had wanted more for herself, someone to love and to be loved in return but instead she got divorced, and then left to face her fears in the town she fled years earlier. Her plans were to clean up and sell her parents home and move on from there, but Jackson throws her a giant roadblock. Still the boy she remembers underneath his new bulked-up and extremely handsome exterior she's afraid he'll see all of her flaws. With some catching up to do they both discover each of their lives has taken some unexpected turns but their future might just lead down the same road.

Abby is brave to come back to the place that she abandoned. She's beautiful, caring, but also broken up inside from her failed marriage, and feels like she isn't good enough. Abby has a hard time seeing her own self-worth and it makes you want to shake some sense into her, but that's what Jackson is there for. He's a marine, firefighter, and a Texas cowboy complete with manners, and a heartbreaking past filled with loss. Abby is looking for the next step in her life, and Jackson is searching for what's missing in his even if he doesn't know it. Together they work through what separated them in the first place and reawaken feelings that have long since been thought buried.

I sped through Sweetest Mistake, my eyes refused to leave the book until it was over. There aren't many novels that I devour like an amazon but every book in this series has addicted me. I was delighted that Charli—one of my favorite heroines from Anything But Sweet—made frequent appearances with Reno. Even more surprising was Jackson's ex-wife Fiona. I felt like I should dislike her for hanging around and making Abby question herself, but she wasn't anything like I was expecting. I even think Fiona might be my newest favorite side-character. Jackson's daughter is also the cutest fictional baby ever, and the father-daughter interactions had me swooning, a lot. I'm pretty sure there's not one unlikable character and there's a town full of them. The romance between Abby and Jackson was soaked in sexual tension, keeping you on your toes. I thought it had a perfect balance of romance and drama (not so much drama but enough to stir the pot). Jesse Wilder, Jackson's veterinarian brother is a sly devil and I mean that in a good way. He's hysterical, smart, and handsome as sin. I already know he's the next Wilder I'm going to be falling head-over-heels for.

Just when I think the Wilder brothers can't get any more sexy, they do. You know what's hotter than brooding sexy-serious Reno? Jackson. He's as straight as an arrow and speaks his mind, or at least he did until Abby reappears. Then he can't seem to form any of the right words. All of the Wilders are warmhearted, Texas gentleman, with buckets full of charm and compassion. They're hard-working cowboys who have the highest amount of respect for women, and people in general. Their mother Jana raised them right and instilled in them all the best values. If I were to name my ideal guy he'd be a Wilder - doesn't even matter which one, though I'd gladly take Jackson. That's what makes the Sweet, Texas novels so charming because of the heartfelt characters, emotional stories, and the surge of happiness you feel when you're reading. Sweetest Mistake is the kind of book you don't hesitate to buy, it's a keeper.

Synopsis:

When friends become lovers . . .

Firefighter and former Marine Jackson Wilder has tough guy down to an art, but he’s learned the hard way that promises were made to be broken. Abigail Morgan was once his best friend, his first kiss, his first love, his first everything. He’d just forgotten to mention all that to her and she blew out of his life. Five years later, she’s back and he’s battling a load of mistrust for her disappearing act. But for some reason he just can’t keep his lips—or his hands—to himself.

It can lead to disaster or . . .

When her stint as a trophy wife abruptly ends, Abby returns home to Sweet, Texas, and comes face-to-face with Jackson—her biggest and sexiest mistake. Time and distance did nothing to squash her love for the act-first-think-later stubborn hunk of a man, and when he suggests they renew their old just-friends vow, Abby realizes she wants more. She’d cut and run once. Could she do it again? Or could she tempt him enough to break his promise?

  3. I can not say enough good things about this series. The characters are so real, it kind of sucks a little when reality intrudes and you realize they only live in your imagination. Lucky for me, I hang out in my imagination a lot, so.....

    Great review :)
