A Dark Grave: An Elysium Chronicles Short Novel (Review)

A Dark Grave
(The Elysium Chronicles, #0.5)

Release Date: December 25th, 2012
Genre(s): YA

My Review: (4/5 stars*)

Having read Renegade (The Elysium Chronicles, #1) and loved every second of it - it should hardly come as a surprise that this was a really great albeit short read. I wish Gavin's prequel was longer but this short novel A Dark Grave goes on to tell about the events leading right to Gavin ending up in Elysium and his meeting Evelyn Winters; Daughter of the People. From his perspective you get to see a little of his home life and learn about some of his background which was interesting and fills in a couple of holes missing in Renegade. A Dark Grave is a nice little read if you love his character and want to glimpse more of him through his own point of view. I would definitely recommend for fans of Renegade and those not familiar with this new series will most definitely enjoy this quick introduction to this character regardless and its entrance into the world that's created.

Synopsis:

An Elysium Chronicles short story: the beginning.
There is only one place forbidden to the people of Gavin's village; the island just off the shore, rumored to be haunted. Cursed.

All who venture to the island disappear.

But Gavin doesn't believe in such things. He is a hunter; since his father's death, he is the only one who can provide for the family. Silly rumors of ghosts aren't going to stop him from crossing the dark waters to the island in search of fresh game...
