Crown of Midnight (Review)

Crown of Midnight is a near-perfect novel, that keeps you fumbling through pages to collect sought after answers. It continues Celaena's ill-fated journey to reclaiming her life as her own but in the process shakes out many secrets that the Glass castle holds. I actually had to put this one down to absorb the amount of plot twists this story takes. It's so freaking good that I'm incredibly excited to charge through to the next book without hesitation. This series is a MUST read for fantasy lovers, and it goes to some seriously dark places. I really am enjoying the rich histories and mysterious lands that Maas has created.

I can't wait to start the next, what a strong, page-turning and devastating read.

My Synopsis:

Since the last book we get to finally explore what her new job as the King's Champion is about. Who she is to kill, how her new life fits into her core beliefs, and how she must now navigate without breaking the trust of the twisted, mad king. Her newest contract involves Celaena's past, and with it opens doors she never knew existed, and tests all the loyalties she has with the Prince, Chaol, and her closest friend Nehemia. Upon learning that a past ally might be working against the kingdom, Celaena must trust her instinct and discover answers before the king finds out what she knows or all hell will break lose, and all that she's sought to achieve, with her freedom constantly hanging in the balance.

Crown of Midnight takes you back into the chaos full speed ahead. It's heartbreaking, truth-revealing about Celaena's past. It has all the checklist markers for a seriously wicked and great story. I can't even fathom what will go down in the next book because this sequel was pretty wild. I really like that you never know what Celaena's actually thinking or other characters. Each development is a spiraling surprise. Celaena's continues to toe the line of morality with this blood-thirsty series. Lots of action, romance, and blinding loss that will transform where you thought the story was going to lead you.

I won't spoil anything, you just need to order it, go to Target, or instant buy. It's got everything one searches for when looking for a read quite unlike others in the category. I really regret not picking this series up sooner, but I'm on it now. I feel like it's harder to conjure up words when you love where a book's taking you, especially wondering if the ending will play out happy or tragic but you just have to read on and find out.

Advisory: It's definitely designated for mature adults 16+, but 18+ due to violence, sex, and content not suitable for young readers.

Another winning sequel that doesn't give away all the answers or make it easy for you to guess. A completely great surprise. On to the next book, Heir of Fire!
