Inhale (Review)

(Just Breathe, #1)

Release Date: May 1st, 2012
Genre(s): Adult Paranormal/Romance

Presented by: *Rumor Has It*

My Review: (4.5/5 stars*)

Inhale is hot, sexy, and truly original! The world-building is amazing and the attention to detail is incredible. Kendall Grey entrances readers with her story-telling ability. Both the main protagonists Zoe and Gavin are hard not to like. Especially the stubborn and strong-willed Zoe Morgan whose fierce loyalty is completely endearing. Gavin is a piece of work and I mean that in the best of ways; he's insanely attractive and an Aussie no less! But his transformation from hard time partier to committed to his duty is what I loved most from his character. The growth and pace of the story is nicely executed. Everything about this book felt new and refreshing - one of the most important ingredients most authors fail to achieve, but not this one! But beware this is no YA read it has explicit language, sex, and violence that's not intended for readers under the age of 18. Keeping that in mind Inhale is a terrific start to what is positive to be a very fiery trilogy!

Zoe Morgan is a whale biologist and for the first time ever she gets the opportunity to head up her own project in Hervey Bay, Australia. But every night when she falls asleep she ends up in a dream world where there are fiery monsters bent on harming her. As she wanders this dreaming world a flawless stranger keeps saving her from these fire-wielding beasts. He's perfect but he's only a figment of her imagination and waking up becomes what she least looks forward to. But just as these strange recurring dreams happen Zoe starts questioning her sanity when she winds up in unexplainable situations in reality. Gavin Cassidy is a rock star and also an Elemental Sentinel whose job is to protect and watch over a Wydling in the Dreaming (the Dream World). As he observes and gets to know Zoe in this otherworldly realm he starts to fall for her and that's a dangerous thing he cannot afford and neither can she. Together these two strangers may just be able to stop these hellish beasts from taking over the Dreaming and the real world.

The world that's created is richly creative and utterly fascinating. I love how whales are integrated into the story and the significance of them. Kendall Grey infuses the real life problems that the whale community faces and addresses these issues with a strong stance on their protection. Inhale offers a greatly entertaining story with an important message intertwined. The writing and story plot are well done, the world-building is excellent, the characters are realistic, and lastly the romance is scorching hot! Hardly anything about Inhale can go into the dislike column, it'll leave you completely breathless for the sequel!

Synopsis:

Strangers in reality, inseparable in dreams…

After years of suffocating under her boss’s scrutiny, whale biologist Zoe Morgan finally lands a job as director of a tagging project in Hervey Bay, Australia. Success Down Under all but guarantees her the promotion of a lifetime, and Zoe won’t let anything—or anyone—stand in her way. Not the whale voices she suddenly hears in her head, not the ex who won’t take no for an answer, and especially not the gorgeous figment of her imagination who keeps saving her from the fiery hell of her dreams.

Gavin Cassidy hasn’t been called to help a human Wyldling in over a year, which is fine by him. Still blaming himself for the death of his partner, he keeps the guilt at bay by indulging in every excess his rock star persona affords. That is, until he’s summoned to protect Zoe from hungry Fyre Elementals and learns his new charge is the key to restoring order in the dying Dreaming. He never expects to fall for the feisty Dr. Morgan…nor does he realize he may have to sacrifice the woman he loves to save an entire country.

*This book contains graphic language, sex, and violence. Not suitable for readers under the age of 18.

**The author will donate all profits from the sale of the JUST BREATHE trilogy to programs that educate people about whales and the challenges they face.
