(Mythology, #2)

Published: October 11th, 2013
Genre(s): YA Paranormal/Fantasy

A demon with a pure heart, Micah Condie lives his life by a code of ethics, but breaking that code may be the only way for him to survive. A supernatural entity in her own right, Hope Gentry would do anything in her power to protect her loved ones, but she may be the one who puts them in peril.
When the Demon Impiorum challenges the laws that keep guardians and demons in balance, ancient enforcers of justice intervene. Micah, Hope, and their mentor Jonathan become entangled in a conspiracy that will test even the deepest love and trust.

Someone will commit an act of betrayal. Someone will forever abandon a loved one.
Someone will enter THE WICKED.

The rest of the bio class already disappeared into the library. Sylvia will be exercising her dramatic talent with Colin for a few minutes, so I hurry down the hallway to the principal’s office. I pass by the corridor leading to the art and music rooms on my way and see two people at the end of the hall. I think one of them is on the baseball team, and his soul is glowing a dark purple. I stop in my tracks as he shoves a smaller kid into one of the music rooms.

The old memories feel raw as they cycle rapid-fire through my brain. Kids teasing me at lunchtime, pulling my hair, spreading rumors, knocking my books out of my arms in the hallways. I’d been bullied up through middle school because I was different, because I had trouble controlling my abilities and the visions that accompanied them.

But I’m not that same person anymore. I’m a guardian. I’m immortal.
I don’t believe in destiny, not even after dying and coming back a guardian. Micah once tried to convince me that I could use my powers to help people, like a superhero. I still don’t consider myself in the league of a superhero in terms of powers or sense of duty, but I do feel super-charged from the energy I took from Sylvia.

I stalk down the hallway.
I freaking hate bullies.

Hope Gentry doesn’t believe in Fate. Born with an unusual power to see the dark memories of those around her, Hope just wants to be a normal teenager. But on the first day of her senior year of high school, she finds herself irresistibly drawn to a transfer student named Micah Condie. At first glance, Micah seems like a boy that most girls would dream about. But when Hope's powers allow her to discover Micah's darkest secret, she quickly becomes entangled in the lives of mythical entities she never dreamed existed. Was this her destiny all along? And will her powers help her survive the evil of the Demon Impiorum?

Mythology isn’t just for English class anymore.
